Questions people ask
What is normal blood pressure?+
For adults, less than 120 over less than 80 mmHg (American Heart Association).
One high reading: should I worry?+
One reading isn't enough to know. Blood pressure changes through the day. Measure at the same time for several days and share the readings with a doctor. Only a doctor can diagnose high blood pressure.
When is it an emergency?+
If your reading is higher than 180 and/or higher than 120, wait a few minutes and measure again. If it's still that high, contact a doctor straight away. If you also have chest pain, shortness of breath, back pain, numbness, weakness, vision changes or trouble speaking, call your emergency number.
